In its fifth year, the one-of-a-kind Taos Lilac Festival at Kit Carson Park promises to be a fun and exciting event for the entire family. Held in mid to late May each year, the festival showcases the peak of Taos’ abundant lilac blooms and celebrates both Taos’ rich history of lilacs and the natural beauty of Taos with a wide array of family-friendly activities. In conjunction with the Festival’s mission to promote the beautification of Taos, planting lilacs and promoting proper care of them is one of the focal points of this lively and visual week. This year’s festival will take place from Friday, May 19th and extends to Sunday, May 21st. Events during the three-day festival include a pet parade, pet costume contest, pet blessing, entertainment, a taco cook-off, a craft fair where unique handmade items will be for sale, the Tio Vivo carousel, and the Lilac 5K, as well as the opportunity to enjoy food vendors with New Mexican Cuisine for sale and the New Mexico Beer and Wine Garden featuring New Mexico crafted beers and wines for purchase. There will be live musical performances in Kit Carson Park throughout the afternoon each day, featuring some of Taos’ most beloved and well-known acts. In addition to music and activities, festival-goers will also have the opportunity to learn about caring for lilacs and receive gardening advice from Los Jardineros Garden Club, as the festival is intended to focus on the landscape beautification and natural beauty of Taos. The Lilac Festival Garden Center will have a large selection of live lilac bushes for sale. For a full entertainment and activity schedule, visit www.TaosLilacFestival.com.
